How to be a digital citizen

What does it mean to be a digital citizen

A 'digital citizen' is someone who has developed information and learned how to utilize the internet and digital technology efficiently, and who engages and participates in culture and politics in a thoughtful, responsible, and appropriate manner.

What does it to be a good digital citizen?

1-Be your self:

In our society, there are a lot of phony people, false acts, and fake news... People struggle with being fake because they lack a unique identity; they constantly conceal their true self in order to please others or acquire something they want. We can only be ourselves, though, in the end of the day. We must be honest, give accurate information, and demonstrate who we are as good digital citizens. Don't forget to think about it! Being someone else may initially attract a big number of followers, but as time goes, your true self (personality) disappears, and being yourself becomes increasingly difficult.

2. Protect your personal information:

It can be tough to keep personal information private and not share personal information on social media, especially when we want others to learn more about us. Healthy digital citizenship, on the other hand, necessitates vigilance in who and how information is shared. Sharing personal information has ramifications not just for the person who is the subject of the information, but also for everyone around them.

3. Be Conscious of Your Content in Order to Leave a Good Digital Legacy

Words are used to convey information, express sentiments, and communicate thoughts. But, especially on social media, choosing the right words is difficult. As a result, effective digital citizens are always aware of what they say or write so that their online acts do not come back to haunt them or harm their reputation.

4. Take a look forward.

Remember, EVERYTHING IS SAVED ON THE INTERNET! Just because you deleted something from a social media app doesn't mean it was taken off from the internet. So, when you're uploading or adding new content, think about your future and how it will influence you in the next years.

5. Remember to follow the Golden Rule

The Golden Rule suggests that you should treat people as you would like a family member to be treated. This means that we should treat others with respect and accept their differences when we communicate with them. And, in this digital era, we must recognize that this applies to both face-to-face and online connections.

Students should be taught when working online to avoid problems

As a result of the Corona Virus outbreak, students are increasingly working online. The global education system has been forced to find alternatives to face-to-face instruction as a result of the crisis. As a result, instructors have begun to employ online teaching and learning, and one of the teachers' roles is to introduce this to pupils. As a result, in order to avoid issues, we as teachers should instruct and lead our pupils when working online.

As a teacher, I may educate students how to prevent issues when working online by teaching them the following: Be an active member of the online community, to leave a favorable digital footprint, be attentive of their content, manage their time by being themselves, stay away from social media distractions.

What can I do now that we were not able to do a year ago?

Coronavirus has transformed and reformed several industries throughout the world, including global education. This transformation has both positive and negative consequences, as many things we can accomplish now that we couldn't do a year before (before this pandemic).

Many occupations that were formerly thought to be unsuitable for remote work are now doing so. We, as instructors, educate online using technologies such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. We used to teach face-to-face in classrooms, but today we sit from home performing our jobs and providing our lessons. We used to attend several seminars and training to develop our abilities in addition to teaching; now we attend them online, and the themes of these workshops change. One issue, for example, used to be "how to engage students in group work in classrooms," but now it's "how to engage them in online learning."

Apart from what I've already stated, I've learnt a lot of new things, including how to change priorities, which has helped me create my educational philosophy, how to see things from a different perspective, and how to think outside the box. My interests have switched from focusing about academics to serious concerns about my pupils' mental and emotional well-being, especially when they are under stress as a result of a sudden, drastic upheaval in their life.

Learning online has its benefits and drawbacks, but I believe that it has provided me with numerous opportunities. For the previous two years (prior to the Corona virus), attending TD classes was mandatory, and the time for beginning lectures was in the evening, which was inconvenient for most students, particularly those who worked evenings, and I was unable to register at that time. So, studying online facilitates my life by allowing me to work at any time of day or night, and if I am not accessible during the lecture, I can go back to the recordings and repeat them for a better comprehension at any time.

Challenges I face in learning/teaching online

With the advent of online schooling in 2021, the educational landscape will have shifted significantly. Everyone assumed that when education moved online because to covid19 constraints, it would be a one-time transition, but about a year and a half later, schools are still operating online. For the time being, the globe is still grappling with the effects of the epidemic, and information will continue to be provided online. There has been fast online development and changes in the way online education is offered when compared to 2019.

Asking God to lift up the Corona virus from our earth since it is the main reason behind learning online.

What are the obstacles to studying and teaching online that we all face?

Online learners' lack of motivation, where as challenging as distance teaching is for us, it is likely to be far more difficult for students. As a student, I transitioned from classrooms where studying is explicitly encouraged to bedrooms and kitchen tables where distractions abound and professional help isn't always available. Also, time-consuming resources when a teacher can no longer teach simply by standing in front of a class, I must rely on resources to complete the task for you. Making those takes time. In addition to that attention is an obstacle where I have the ability to quiet my mics (and chat to anyone I choose) while I am studying, yet other students are prone to getting up and strolling away from their class....

Other common problems are:

  1. Problems with internet
  2. Time management
  3. lack of in-person interaction
  4. Adapting to unfamiliar technology
  5. lack engaging somehow

Islamic Law

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without its roots.

The beauty of Islam is that everything is documented and proven. This was something I had to learn the hard way. I used to believe that every Muslim understood more than I did when I first converted. And, while this is true for the most part, there are Muslims who are quite enthusiastic about the kind of Islam that their parents naively adopted from their parents, and so on.

Every Muslim is responsible for gaining Islamic knowledge, and studying it and passing it on to others is seen as one of the most effective methods to achieve success in this world and the next. "Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim," the Prophet declared.

Since you will have a deeper understanding of Allah as a result of the first benefit of Islam, your allegiance, obedience, and loyalty will be solely to Allah. You will unquestionably place your whole confidence in Allah and follow Him before following anybody else.

Islam is a monotheistic religion, which is one of its fundamental features. Belief in one creator for the cosmos is a reality that would persuade any rational mind. The only God worthy of adoration is this one. Islam is relevant to all centuries and peoples; its principles answer all of humanity's problems.

Tools can be used in online assessment

An online assessment is a method of assessing what pupils know depending on their educational background. Using accessible online tools, this examination is carried out through the Internet. All assessments have the same purpose of assessing and enhancing students' learning. An online evaluation has the benefit of speed and accuracy over a traditional assessment approach.

Students can be assessed using a variety of methods. Take a look at a few examples:

1-kahoot

Kahoot - a game-based assessment application that allows teachers to quickly design a quiz game. Students may also make their own "kahoots" to share with their peers, making the experience more participatory.

Kahoot! provides access to over 40 million games that have already been made, making it quick and simple to get started. When time and money are limited, remote learning is the way to go.

To get started with Kahoot!, all you need is a free account. Students may utilize Kahoot! on a variety of devices from anywhere they have access to the internet.

2-Edpuzzle

Edpuzzle is a software program created exclusively for working with videos. It allows students and teachers to annotate films with resources, comments, and quizzes.

Any video may be used as a lesson in EdPuzzle. We combine easy video-editing tools with advanced analytics so that a teacher may personalize, engage, and effectively deliver a video. We're creating a library of the greatest video courses for the classroom by working together. We're working toward a day when every teacher and student may access high-quality online resources with only a few mouse clicks.

3-Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere: is a tool that allows you to engage with your audience. Teachers may utilize it to boost classroom engagement and engage students in the learning process. Poll Everywhere may be utilized as a live classroom quizzing or formative assessment tool to promote and magnify classroom dialogue, participation, and comprehension. Students will be able to vote, and the results will be announced later.

4-Google Doc

Google Docs adds life to your documents with smart editing and styling tools that make it simple to format text and paragraphs. Add links, pictures, and drawings, and choose from hundreds of typefaces. It allows teachers to generate and send evaluations to their pupils. A teacher can also discuss and comment on an exam with colleagues or the coordinator.

And it's all for free.

    5- Google form

Google Form: Google Forms is popular among teachers because it is quick and easy to create and grade quizzes. Its very important in teaching nowadays via internet.

6-Padlet

Padlet: It is a program that allows you to establish an online bulletin board where you may post information on any subject. It may be used by teachers to receive feedback or rapid replies to a specific question. This allows students to engage, think, and work at the same time.Padlet can be used instead of sticky notes.

Integrating Technology into Teaching

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the use of technology and its integration into education, resulting in significant success and improvements in the teaching/learning process. In the educational field, technology saves time, promotes active learning in the classroom, increases engagement time, and leads to a successful learning process.

The variety of apps that can be used to demonstrate a lesson, introduce new material, collect data about students, and assess their learning progress is what most motivates me to use technological tools in my classroom. This saves me time while increasing their class participation.

Incorporating technology into the teaching/learning process is essential because it benefits both the teacher and the students. It will aid teachers in lesson planning, execution, and evaluation. Simultaneously, by allowing all students to participate in the learning process, it will increase student engagement.
